Mohammad Amir has finally responded to Rohit Sharma. The Indian batsman had called Amir an “overhyped” player in the past.

The incident had begun back in 2016 when during the Asian Cup Rohit had stated about Mohammad Amir that, “There is just so much hype around him, I don’t think it is right to give him too much hype after one match.”

He had also implied that Amir did not deserve the attention that he was receiving as he was “just a normal bowler.”

Sharma said, “Stop talking about him already. He isn’t the only bowler, Pakistan have five other bowlers who are doing well for them.”

According to the Deccan Chronicle, Amir responded to Rohit’s statement in an interview with Sky Sports during which he stated that he was not bothered with what others thought of him as this caused him stress.

Elaborating on this Amir stated that “Everyone is entitled to their opinion, whether it’s labeling a cricketer world-class or ordinary; it is up to that individual.” Of Rohit’s assessment of him the Pakistani cricketer stated that “That was his opinion about me and he is entitled to that opinion. Maybe his opinion about me has now changed.”

Amir also heaped praise on Sharma stating that he was an “extraordinary batsman” who he greatly respected and admired.

“In fact, I would call him an extraordinary batsman. His record for India is superb and I respect him. His opinions about other cricketers are up to him, but with all due respect I never worry about what other cricketers have to say about me,” Amir said.

Amir recently won national and international fame during the ICC Champions Trophy where he had bowled a fiery spell that had troubled highly respected Indian players such as Virat Kohli and Shikhar Dhawan.
