KARACHI: The Sindh Revenue Board (SRB) surpassed the target set for 2016-17 at Rs78 billion.
According to official figures, the SRB achieved a growth of 28 per cent in revenue collection over the previous fiscal year (2015-16) when revenue target was Rs61 billion.
The standard rate of Sindh sales tax during 2016-17 was 13pc as against the standard rate of 14pc during the previous fiscal year.
The SRB has been constantly recording growth in revenue collection and has outperformed other provincial revenue collecting arms.
Looking at the excellent performance of the SRB, the provincial government has also handed over the collection of Sindh Workers Welfare Fund (SWWSF) and Sindh Workers Profits ParticÂipation Fund (SWPPF).
The collection of revenue on account of these two heads for first year (2016-17) achieÂved a remarkable growth of 284pc on collecting Rs2.170bn against the assigÂned target of Rs765 million.
A spokesman of the SRB told Dawn that the confidence and support reposed on the board by the provincial government has been one of the major factors for excellent performance of the SRB.
He said that the SRB is set to achieve higher revenue target of Rs100bn for next fiscal 2017-18 and this would be 28.2pc higher over the current fiscal’s revenue target of Rs78bn.
The government is planning to expand the provincial sales tax on services by bringing more taxpayers under the ambit with the objective to enhancing revenue.
