Islamabad: (Parliament Times) Urging political parties and leaders to join hands in country’s larger interest, the president of Azad Kashmir Sardar Masood Ahmed Khan has said that a strong, stable and economically prosperous Pakistan was a guarantor of Kashmiris’ freedom struggle.

The AJK president made these observations while speaking at Iftar Dinner hosted in honour of AKNS office bearers, editors and journalists here at Kashmir House on Saturday. He said that besieged Kashmiris could not raise the issue of war crimes at international level. “Being a member of world institutions, Pakistan, having full access to international forums, can raise the issue at global level in a befitting manner”. He said that all the Pakistani governments have promoted and projected the Kashmir cause at international level and despite many challenges they did not budge even an inch from their principled stance on the issue.

He said that owing to the lingering dispute Pakistan had to fight three full fledged wars, lost its eastern part and thus “No Kashmiri can accuse Pakistan for showing any kind of retreat or negligence on the issue”.

Referring to the killing of innocent civilians by Indian occupation forces in IHK the president said that the spate of Indian state repression has intensified during the holy month of Ramzan saying that many youth were arrested during search operations and latter killed in fake encounters by occupation forces. About taking Kashmir issue at the ICJ he said, “Given the many intricacies, it is my considered opinion that we should not take the issue to the international court of Justice, as the UNSC is the world’s most influential and biggest forum having an authority to make their own decisions”. He maintained that the forum [UNSC] through a number of unanimously adopted resolutions has given its ruling on the issue. “These resolutions must be implemented in letter and spirit”, he said adding that if we [Pakistan] set aside the UN resolutions and opt for a different forum then who will give us the guarantee for the implementation of its decision. “The UNSC has the authority to take action against the country that refuses to implement its decision”, he said.

Replying to another query he said that India can’t defeat Pakistan militarily but what makes us weak is its strong and powerful media. He said that there was a dire need to counter Indian negative propaganda thereby exploiting latest and modern tools of effective journalism.
