ISLAMABAD: A six-member Qatari delegation reached the federal capital late at night on Wednesday, sources said.

The delegation that will meet high-level officials at the Prime Minister House is expected to discuss the recent situation in the Gulf.

Before Lahore, the officials had landed in Lahore where they met Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif. They conveyed him the Qatar ameer’s message that demanded Pakistan play its role regarding the diplomatic crisis in Gulf – issue of bans imposed by fellow countries, including Saudi Arabia, Bahrain, Egypt and the United Arab Emirates.

The delegation is headed by the Qatar ameer’s secretary, Abdul Hadi Mana Al Hajri.

On June 5, Saudi Arabia, Egypt, the UAE and Bahrain announced they were cutting diplomatic ties and closing air, sea and land links with Qatar, giving Qataris within their borders two weeks to leave.

The four countries have suspended all flights to and from Qatar, pulled their ambassadors from Doha and ordered Qatari diplomats to leave.
