ISLAMABAD: (Parliament Times) The National Assembly resumed its session in Islamabad on Friday with Speaker Sardar Ayaz Sadiq in the chair.

The National Assembly resumed discussion on the budget for the year 2017-18.

Taking the floor, Leader of the Opposition Syed Khurshid Shah said that the budget is meant for the betterment of the masses and contribution of opposition in its passage is important.

He said the budget is not people friendly and no relief has been given to different segments of the society.

He said that the speeches of all the Parliamentary leader should be broadcast live as it will strengthen democracy in the country.

Later, the Opposition walked out from the House to record their protest for not broadcasting live the speech of the Opposition Leader on PTV.

Taking the Floor, Defence Minister Khawaja Muhammad Asif said that PML-N believes in the supremacy of the state institutions.

He said we have sacrificed a lot for supremacy of judiciary.

He said it is the result of the struggle of PML-N that judiciary has been strengthened in the country.

Khawaja Asif said that statement of Nihal Hashmi is condemnable and the party has taken appropriate action against his move.

He said his party membership has been cancelled and he has resigned from the seat of Senate.

He said it is collective responsibility of both the government and opposition to work for strengthening the state institutions under the constitutional mandate available to us.

Taking part in the debate, Shaista Malik congratulated the government on presenting people friendly, comprehensive and balanced budget. She said the budget will bring positive change in the lives of the people and improve the living standard of common man. She proposed that more funds should be allocated for education for the uplift of this sector.

The House will now meet on Monday at four p.m.
