Lahore: The Lahore High Court (LHC) division bench headed by Justice Sadaqat Ali Shah here on Tuesday adjourned the hearing of the case till 23rd of May regarding detention of Jammat-u-Dawa chief Hafiz Muhammad Saeed and other leaders.
The deputy attorney general Naseer Bhutta said that federal review board, headed by Supreme Court (SC) Judge Ijaz Afzal had heard the case of Hafiz Saeed and fellows but no decision was made. “Therefore, we should wait the decision of review boardâ€, Bhutta said.
Hafiz Saeed’s lawyer Ak Dogar said that the 3 months of detention period of Jamaat ud Dawa leaders have been completed and according to Article 10(4), it was necessary to present them in front of Review board and to hear their stance before the end of detention period, however, in this case nothing such happened. He observed that review board has been formed after 14 days of their detention period end.
He said that Hafiz Mohammad Saeed and other detained leaders are free citizens of this country. “Keeping him detained without seeking extension from Review Board is height of lawlessness and making mockery of legal systemâ€, he said. He accused government of using delaying tactics in detention case.
He requested the court to immediately revoke their detention and order their release. Court has adjourned the case till 23rd of May. JuD Central Leader Hafiz Abdul Rehman Makki among lawyers, civil society and large number of people from all walks of life were also present.
