ISLAMABAD: (Parliament Times) National Database and Registration Authority (Nadra) On Tuesday temporarily unblocked some 0.15 million computerised national identity cards (CNICs) out of the total of around 0.35 million it had earlier blocked, sources told the media.

Sources in the interior ministry further said that the authorities are considering to unblock 20,000 more CNICs.

Interior Minister Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan had announced two weeks ago that all blocked CNICs, except the 174,184 such cards belonging to ‘confirmed aliens’, will be unblocked for a temporary period of 60 days.

The unblocked CNICs will remain valid until completion of investigations and attestation process and the final decision will be taken following the complete investigation, the sources said, adding that the CNICs had been blocked in accordance with reports of the intelligence agencies.

Meanwhile, sources informed that CNICs of another 1,510 people have been blocked. The CNICs were blocked on the recommendations of National Counter-Terrorism Authority (Nacta) as the authority compiled a comprehensive list of people named in the fourth schedule list.

The details of people enlisted in the fourth schedule have also been forwarded to the banks. The list was compiled in coordination with the intelligence agencies and the police, sources said.

These people, enlisted in the fourth schedule, would not be able to use their bank accounts, arms and driving licences, and passports.
