Rawalpindi: (Parliament Times) President Mamnoon Hussain has called for adoption of latest technology in the medical education and profession.
He was speaking at the inaugural ceremony of the Surgeon General International Conference in Rawalpindi on Thursday.
The president said rapid changes are taking place in the realm of economy and technology but role of the medical profession remains the same.
He said doctors and others associated with medical profession can rightly be concerned about their career but they must also ensure that these concerns do not conflict with basic human values.
He expressed the confidence that the conference would be able to formulate recommendations for a new social contract between doctors and patients.
The President said that medical institutions including those of the armed forces should seriously ponder over bringing improvement in the medical profession with the aim to serve the ailing community. He emphasized the need for a better social contract between the doctors and the patients.
Mamnoon Hussain said that he is aware of the service structure and other problems faced by the doctors. However, he asked them to remain steadfast in performance of their duties for the noble cause.
The President expressed the confidence that deliberations at the international conference will enable all the stakeholders to firm up an effective strategy aimed at addressing all the challenges related to the medical profession.
Surgeon General of Pakistan Asif Mumtaz Sukhera also spoke on the occasion and highlighted the performance of the medical corps during war times as well as natural calamities.
