Srinagar: In occupied Kashmir, a physically challenged youth, who was beaten by Indian forces in October, last year, succumbed to his injuries at Soura in Srinagar.
The injured physically challenged youth, Mushtaq Kundoo, whose poverty-stricken family struggled to meet his medical expenses and their day-to-day necessities, died on Sunday.
Ghulam Ahmad Kundoo, father of the victim, told mediamen in Srinagar, “Since the uprising began, I have not gone to work. In October, my son was beaten up by Indian forces. That made our situation even more difficult. Now he died.â€
Mushtaq Kundoo, a resident of Ganai Mohalla in Soura area of Srinagar, has three family members – his mother, father and brother. His brother had a job that earned him Rs 3,000 per month, and his father was a driver. Both of them had not gone to work for months because they were busy taking care of Mushtaq.
Ghulam Ahmad Kundoo said that that his son, who could not speak and had been diagnosed as 75-percent disabled, was bedridden since October and the family had to take care of him day and night. “He could not move. We gave him medicines many times a day. If anyone moved away from him, he screamed,†Kundoo said.
Injured Mushtaq was treated at three different hospitals. At first he was taken to Soura Hospital in Srinagar, from where he was shifted to Bone and Joint Hospital Srinagar, and from there to JLNM Hospital in Srinagar.
“Doctors told us that he cannot be treated further,†Kundoo said.
Meanwhile, four children received serious burn injuries in Sopore when they were fiddling with an unexploded teargas shell fired by Indian forces near Jamia Masjid. Children in occupied Kashmir pick up the unexploded shells on the street knowing not they are dangerous.
