Islamabad: The President Azad Jammu and Kashmir Sardar Muhammad Masood Khan has said the joint resolution of Oxford City Council of Britain on deteriorating human rights situation in Occupied Kashmir is an important development.
Talking to Lord Mayor Councilor of Oxford City Council, Muhammad Altaf Khan in Islamabad on Monday, he said the resolution would encourage oppressed Kashmiris who are struggling for the success of freedom movement. The leader of opposition in AJK Legislative Assembly, Chaudhry Muhammad Yasin was also present on the occasion. President Sardar Muhammad Masood Khan congratulated chaudhry Muhammad Altaf Khan on his elections as Lord Mayor Oxford City council and said his election is matter of great honour for the people of Kashmir. The president lauded the political and social services of Lord Mayor Muhammad Altaf Hussain for internationalizing Kashmir issue in its true perspective.
The mayor told AJK President that there are only three members of Kashmir/ Pakistani community while rest 45 are native English Councilor but resolution on Kashmir was passed unanimously, which is great success. He told that human rights cell of the law department of Oxford University will soon release a report on human rights situation in Kashmir and expressed his desire that AJK president should address the students of the law in Oxford University. For this purpose the mayor he will formally invite the president to address the student of Oxford University.
President Sardar Muhammad Masood Khan said it would great honour for him to address the students of Oxford University if and when he is invited. He said there is an urgent need to activate youth of Kashmiri community in United Kingdom with task to highlight Kashmir issue and violation of human rights by using social media. The members of Kashmiri community should get in touch with their councilors and members of parliament
Earlier a delegation comprising office bearers of Institute of Peace and Development headed by its Chairman Sardar Tahir Tabbasum called on President Sardar Muhammad Masood Khan. The delegation discussed violation of human rights in Occupied Kashmir and diplomatic efforts at international for peaceful resolution of Kashmir with president.
Speaking on the occasion president said Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit to Kashmir has ended in fiasco as people of Occupied Kashmir once again demonstrated that they are not willing to stay part of India by observing complete strike on arrival of Indian PM in Kashmir. He said naïve on the part of Indian Prime Minister to ask the people of Kashmir to turn away from “terrorism†and promote tourism. Narendra Modi must realize that that it was India’s state repression and its unbridled army that had forced Kashmiri youth to take gun in their hands for self defence. Kashmiris he said are civilized and peaceful people and what they are doing is nothing but to resist against the repression from occupation army.
