Srinagar: In occupied Kashmir, the High Court Bar Association (HCBA) has strongly condemned the illegal detention and house arrest of Hurriyet leaders and imposition of curbs on their movement by the puppet authorities ahead of the so-called Indian Parliamentary elections in the territory.
The HCBA spokesman in a statement issued in Srinagar said, the Bar Association strongly condemns the arrest of Muhammad Yasin Malik and his lodging at Srinagar Central Jail and the caging of almost all pro-freedom leaders including Syed Ali Gilani, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq and Muhammad Ashraf Sehrai and the imposing of restrictions on their movement by the authorities to prevent them from launching anti-election campaign and to persuade the people to boycott the upcoming Indian parliamentary elections scheduled to be held in Srinagar and Islamabad constituencies on 9th and 12th April, 2017.
He said, the HCBA also denounces the trespassing by the police into the house of Aasiya Andrabi and the ransacking of household goods in her absence. He termed the police action as immoral, unethical, unlawful and highly objectionable.
The Bar Association also expressed concern over the continued illegal detention of senior Hurriyet leader, Masarrat Aalam Butt, despite the dismissal of the revision petition by Sessions Judge Bandipora filed by the police against the order of Chief Judicial Magistrate Bandipora whereby he had granted bail to Masarrat Aalam in a case registered against him in 2015 and had ordered his immediate release.
Meanwhile, the HCBA expressed its grief and sorrow over the demise of the mother of convener of AJK Chapter of Mirwaiz Umar Farooq-led Hurriyet forum, Syed Faiz Naqshbandi, and extended its sympathy and condolence to the bereaved family members.
