People going to the government hospitals for getting their patients treated there are often heard complaining about lack of facilities and attention of the doctors and para-medical staff here and there. The Punjab Government is spending huge amounts on provision of latest modern healthcare facilities to the people in the urban and rural areas but still one keeps hearing about not so good medical treatment facilities in the government hospital where people with meager resources as they cannot afford costly treatment of their patient in the private hospitals. When the Chief Minister time and again says that provision of quality healthcare facilities to the people is his mission then this message should also go down the line to the doctors and staff of all government hospitals throughout the province. But quite unfortunately ,somehow, this is not happening .It is good to read the news that the provincial government is implementing a comprehensive plan of reforming and revamping the tertiary care hospitals throughout the province for improving healthcare delivery services.Reports say that this reforms programme is going to be implemented in all the hospitals in a phased manner for ensuring infrastructure development, improvement of management, patient care, human resources capacity building and improving standards of service delivery. For this purpose, a modern health information is also going to be devised in all hospitals. In the first phase, reforms and revamping has been started in selected hospitals for which experts from brotherly country Turkey are extending guidance and cooperation to provincial health officials. This is all good and welcome and one should hope that the desired results of this reforms and revamping programme will become visible in three to six months and people start saying that they are getting quality healthcare facilities and doctors are taking good care of their patients wherever they go in the government hospitals.
