Beaten but not defeated: Bright future ahead for Lahore Qalandars

Lahore Qalandars once again failed to make it to the playoffs this time, repeating their dismal run from the first edition of the Pakistan Super League. The team ended up at the bottom of the table in both the editions, first under the captaincy of Azhar Ali in 2016 and then under former New Zealand captain Brendon McCullum this year.

In an interview with Score, Chief Executive Lahore Qalandars, Atif Rana said it was really unfortunate that the team lost after preparing so hard. But, he added, the team has a bright future ahead.

“We know the fans are disappointed but we did what was best for the team, in addition to hiring Aqib Javed as Director Cricket,” Rana said.

Despite everything, the CEO urged, the Qalandars have not lost hope as the word ‘Qalandar’ is synonymous with passion that binds people together – a team that never surrenders.

Responding to another question, Rana said that the Qalandars organized Rising Stars Tournament to hunt for and highlight the emerging talent of Pakistan, which helped bring new talent to the fore – one of the biggest positives from this PSL.
