ISLAMABAD : (Parliament Times) Minister for Information and Broadcasting Marriyum Aurangzeb has said that the importance given by Quaid-e-Azam to Mohtarma Fatima Jinnah conveyed a clear message that women will have equal rights and opportunities in Pakistan.
Speaking at a function at the National Press Club in Islamabad on Wednesday, she referred to a Harward study that suggested that companies headed by a woman performed better than those headed by males.
The Minister of State said the present Government too has appointed women to head different ministries, departments and programmes.
She said that a proposal is under consideration for sustained annual funding of press clubs.
The Minister of State told that the Ministry has already circulated draft of the bill on Security and Welfare of Journalists. She said necessary legislation would be done after input from all stakeholders and urged journalists’ community to expedite their response.
Marriyum Aurganzeb asserted that the government believes in freedom of speech but freedom should be exercised with responsibility. She emphasized the need for responsible reporting and adherence of code of conduct.
The Minister of State appreciated the media for positive projection of Pakistan which helped successful holding of PSL final in Lahore.
The Minister for National Health Services,Saira Afzal Tarar said recommendations of the Electoral Reform Committee for allocation of ten percent tickets to women candidates by political parties would also help strengthen women empowerment.
Separately, addressing a function in connection with world women day at Rawalpindi Chambers of Commerce and Industry, Marriyum Aurangzeb said it is the vision of the prime minister to involve women in the decision making process. She said this is the reason that the women today are heading many important ministries and departments.
The Minister said the health and education reforms program launched by the present government are an important milestone. She said that Marriyum Nawaz has played an important role in the implementation of these programs.
