PTI chief Imran Khan gave a statement which went viral on social media, claiming that the foreign players who had taken part in the Pakistan Super League final, were ‘phateechar’ and that he wasn’t even aware of their names. Imran Khan faced immense criticism from all quarters when he slammed the government and termed its decision to hold the Pakistan Super League final in Lahore as ‘madness’. Imran however, refused to retract his statement and instead, referred to the foreign players who played in the final as ‘low-class’ players. Imran Khan said that the foreign players who attended the PSL final in Lahore would have come even to play domestic cricket if they were offered money. He said that the big names of international cricket were unwilling to come to Pakistan and did not arrive. Quetta Gladiator batsman Kevin Pietersen said in a video message he was told that it was not a good idea to travel to Pakistan. MQM-Pakistan member Faisal Sabzwari slammed Imran Khan’s comments, claiming that the retired cricketer’s statement was disappointing.Minister of State for Information and Broadcasting Marriyum Aurangzeb condemned Imran Khan’s remarks about foreign players who participated in the final of Pakistan Super League in Lahore.She said successful holding of PSL final in Lahore was a message to terrorists from fearless Pakistan to brace the challenge squarely.The minister said the PTI chief visited India in connection with Indian Super League, offered commentary and awarded trophies. However, she said that Imran declared as madness the bold decision of provincial government to accept the challenge and organise the final in Lahore.She said remarks of Imran about foreign players are reflective of his mentality and people would think many times before making a choice in 2018 general elections. She said action was taken against those misusing the platform of social media. She said there is freedom of speech and everyone is welcome to offer constructive criticism but technology must not be misused for spreading rumours and lies.Imran Khan angered fans Tuesday after a leaked video emerged of him describing international stars who agreed to play in the country despite security threats as “third-class” and anonymous.The remarks were captured by a local journalist on a mobile phone and uploaded online, where it sparked a furious backlash including from many of his own supporters.Khan had opposed staging Sunday’s final of the Pakistan Super League in Lahore instead of the UAE where earlier matches were played, citing security grounds. He later appeared to soften his position, using Twitter to congratulate the public on their participation and enthusiasm in a match widely hailed by observers for unifying the country.The irresponsible comments of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf chief Imran Khan about the international players who played the Pakistan Super League final in Lahore were unfortunate and shocking. The recent comments have further worsened situation as he termed the international players participating in the PSL final as ‘phateechar’, and passed some other remarks which were disliked and condemned. Imran Khan should clarify his statement and also should render apology for giving such unnecessary remarks. National leader like him should be careful while delivering any statement.
