MIRPUR: (Parliament Times) Azad Jammu & Kashmir would soon have a world-class medical university exclusively for the delivery of higher education in various disciplines of medical field harmonious to the need of the modern age.
This was disclosed by Dr. Amin Chaudhry, the recently-inducted member of the governing body of the state-run medical colleges in Azad Jammu Kashmir while speaking at the farewell dinner hosted by the management for the first batch of the doctors emerging from the public-sector Mohterma Benazir Bhutto Shaheed Medical College in Mirpur Wednesday. The medical college was established in September 2011 and the students, including those from occupied Jammu Kashmir admitted against their reserved seats, were also honoured with this grand dinner hosted by the management of the college.
Besides Dr. Muhammad Amin Chaudhry, the newly-inducted Member Governing Body of the AJK government controlled medical colleges in AJK, Deputy Commissioner Ansar Yaqoob, Prof. Dr. Zia ul Rehman Principal Poonch Medical College, Prof. Dr. Mian Abdul Rasheed, Principal of Mohterma Benazir Bhutto Shaheed Medical College, eminent political stalwart of the area and ex Chairman MDA Ch. Muhammad Hanif, Dr. Riasat Ali Chaudhry and Director Allama Iqbal Open University Mirpur, student leader Dr. Usman Ghani and others also addressed the ceremony and lauded the untiring efforts of the newly-appointed PML (N) government of AJK for the dispensation of quality higher education in various professional disciplines including the medical field.
The ceremony was largely attended by the faculty members, students, doctors, few of senior most journalists and the city elite. About a dozen students (both genders) from occupied Jammu & Kashmir are getting studies in this Medical College, affiliated with state-run AJK university, on their specially-reserved seats by the AJK government free of cost of their education for entire 5-year MBBS degree program.
The pioneer students were greeted by the audience on successful completion of their studies besides having been well wished for their brighter future through serving the ailing humanity.
The member BOG Dr. Amin Chaudhry continued that under the spirit of the high vision of the PML (N)’s supreme Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif and AJK Prime Minister Raja Farooq Haider Khan, the AJK government will furnish all the public-sector medical colleges in AJK, one each in Mirpur, Muzaffarabad and Poonch, with required latest infrastructural facilities for the delivery of quality education to the students matching to the needs of the modern era.
He said that the recently-formed Governing Body of the AJK-based public-sector medical colleges will soon meet to devise the broad-based strategy for ensuring more due standard of the quality studies to be delivered from these medical colleges.
Addressing the ceremony, DC Mirpur Ansar Yaqoob said that the administration would continue the due facilitation to the MBBS medical college in Mirpur to ensure its more excellent performance in providing studies in line with the due criteria.
Facilitating the students on completion of the students, the DC advised the newly emerged young doctors to focus for their due services to the ailing humanity contributing their due share for encouraging the born of healthy society – with due approach of serving as one of the most important components of the quality future architects of the nation and the country.
Earlier, in his address of welcome, the college’s Principal Prof. Dr. Mian Abdul Rasheed highlighted the curricular and co-curricular activities of his institution. He underlined that despite all odds since the inception of his MBBSMedical College, the college attained success in producing its first batch of the doctors through timely completion of their studies of the five-year MBBS degree program.
He particularly lauded the all-time efforts of Mirpur DC Ansar Yaqoob (in his then capacity as senior Staff Officer of the Chief Secretary of AJK government), eminent local political elder and ex Chairman MDA Ch. Muhammad Hanif, besides the local civil society including doctors, for ensuring the establishment of the Medical college in Mirpur, the first in the government sector in AJK
