Muzaffarabad: (Parliament Times) The Federal government has released around two and half billion development funds for the projects being executed in Azad Jammu and Kashmir.
Addressing a high level meeting at his office to review implementation process of the decision of Prime Minister of Pakistan with regard to development of AJK, Chief Secretary Azad Kashmir, Sikandar Sultan Raja said that state government has got Rs 1.80 billion from Azad Jammu and Kashmir Council. The funds, he said were released under the directives of Prime Minister Muhammad Nawaz Sharif. Similarly AJK government also got around 734 million from WAPDA on account of Neelam Jehlum Hydropower related projects in AJK.
The meeting was attended by Additional Chief Secretary Development Syed Asif Hussain Shah, Additional Chief Secretary General, Farhat Ali Mir, Senior Member Board of Revenue, Fayyaz Ali Abbasi, Inspector General Police Bashir Memon, Secretary Finance and other senior officials. The Chief Secretary said federal ministries are actively implementing the decision taken by Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif during his recent visit to Muzaffarabad and it is now our responsibility to complete the development projects in time.
He said after release of third quarterly tranche of development funds, AJK has around 7 billion development funds in its treasury and there is no more financial crisis in the state. The Chief Secretary directed the secretaries to the government to coordinate with relevant departments of federal government for implementation of the projects relating to their departments. He also directed for timely completion of the projects and their effective monitoring.
The Chief Secretary said Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif is keenly interested in socio-economic development of AJK and now it’s our responsibilities to make timely completion of the projects and according to their specification. Meanwhile Chief Secretary Sikandar Sultan Raja has summoned a high level meeting to discuss the causes of fatal road accidents and possible measures to prevent them.
It was learnt that the funds amounting Rs 734.6 million released by federal government would be spent on six public welfare and environmental protection projects under the Neelum-Jhelum Hydropower Project. According to the official sources, the amount will be utilized for the welfare projects of local people and minimize the environmental hazards in Muzaffarabad district. The funds have been released to AJK Forest Department for constructing a Recreational Park and Water Shed Management at Chatter Kallas area to protect the land from erosion.
Meanwhile, the Environment Protection Department has also been provided requisite funds to setup Testing Laboratories in Muzaffarabad. The AJK Planning and Development Department has directed the concerned departments for timely completion of these projects
The meeting will be attended by Inspector General Police Azad Kashmir, Secretary Transport, Secretary Public Works Department (PWD) Deputy Inspector General police (Traffic) Secretary Transport Authority and administrations of the divisions. The meeting will also discuss all the possible measures for provision better transport facilities to the people
