Islamabad: The annual elections of Rawalpindi Islamabad Union of Journalists (RIUJ) for the year 2017 have completed. Journalist panel has cleaned swiped.
According to results announced by the Iqbal Jaffery Chairman election committee, Muhammad Afzal Butt has elected as President of RIUJ with 872 votes while Ali Raza Alvi secured 789 votes and elected General Secretary and Muhammad Ashgar Chaudhry elected finance secretary with835 votes. As many as 1409 journalists hailing from twin cities have casted their votes.
The polling started at 10.00 am and continued till 7.30 pm without any interval.
Muhammad Afzal Butt secured 872 votes while his rival candidate of Azad panel Sheryar Khan got 506 votes. Ali Raza Alvi of journalist panel got 789 votes and declared successful while his rival candidate of Azad panel Shakeel Karar could bag only 597 votes. Nasir Hashmi, candidate of Vice President of Journalist panel got 854 votes and Saghir Chaudhry candidate of senior Vice President of same panel got 765 votes respectively. Javed Somroo, candidate of joint secretary of Journalist panel got 862 votes and Khalid Gardezi candidate of senior joint secretary of same group got 735 votes and declared successful.
Sheryar Khan, a candidate of President of RIUJ has accepted the election results and congratulated the newly elected office bearers of union and announced unconditional support of newly elected body.
