Srinagar : In occupied Kashmir, the Jammu and Kashmir Liberation Front Chairman, Muhammad Yasin Malik has expressed serious concern over the plight of Kashmiri detainees languishing in different jails and police stations of the territory.
Muhammad Yasin Malik in a statement issued in Srinagar condemned the authorities for deliberately prolonging illegal detention of resistance leaders including Mir Hafizullah, Muhammad Yousuf Falahi, Maulana Sarjan Barkati and 14-year-old boy, Sahil Ahmad Sheikh. He said that Kashmiri Pandits were part and parcel of Kashmir but their settlement in separate colonies would not be acceptable.
Meanwhile, a complete shutdown was observed in Tral area of south Kashmir’s Pulwama district on the second death anniversary of two Kashmiri youth Abid Ahmad Khan and Sheraz Ahmad Dar. Business establishments and shops remained closed while public transport was off the road. The youth were killed in an encounter with Indian forces in the last week of January 2015.
Hurriyet leader, Mukhtar Ahmad Waza led an anti-India protest rally at Bawoora Dachnipora in Islamabad district. The participants of the rally on the occasion said that Kashmir dispute was a threat to peace and stability in the South Asian region.
Police arrested Tehreek-e-Hurriyet leader Bashir Ahmad Qureshi in Kupwara after he tried to lead a march in the town. Dukhtaran-e-Millat Chairperson, Syed Aasiya Andrabi in a statement issued in Srinagar said that the Indian forces were perpetrating crimes against humanity in Kashmir. The Chairman of All Parties Hurriyet Conference, Syed Ali Gilani while condemning the arrest of, Bashir Ahmad Qureshi, called it an extreme form of vandalism and terrorism.
On the other hand, the Chairman of All Parties Hurriyet Conference, Syed Ali Gilani underwent medical check-up at Soura Medical Institute in Srinagar. His son Naseem Gilani said that his father was fine and that he went through some routine medical tests and calibration of pacemaker. He said that doctors also conducted ultrasonography and other tests.
Speakers at a seminar in Islamabad demanded of the UN, OIC and Amnesty International to put pressure on India to release all illegally detained political leaders, withdraw its forces and lift curbs on movement of the resistance leaders in occupied Kashmir. The event was organized by Muttahida Tulba Mahaz for Kashmir Freedom Movement on the completion of 200 days of the martyrdom of Commander Burhan Muzffar Wani. Besides student leaders, others who addressed the function included PML-N Chairman Raja Zafarul Haq, Foreign Office Spokesman Nafees Zakariya, Sheikh Tajamul-ul-Islam, Sardar Atique Ahmad Khan, Major General (retired) Amjad Shoaib and Hurriyet leader Abdul Hameed Lone.
