Islamabad: (Parliament Times) AJK Prime Minister Raja Farooq Haider Khan on Monday urged newly elected Secretary General of United Nations Antonio Guterres and US President elect Donald Trump to play their role in ensuring peace and stability in the region by resolving the Jammu and Kashmir dispute.

Talking to different delegations at Kashmir House Islamabad he welcomed the mediation offer by Secretary General Guterres for settlement of Kashmir issue and called upon the two global leaders to fulfill their responsibilities with regard to Kashmir. Saying that Kashmir is not territorial dispute between India and Pakistan, Prime Minister said it is a question of the right to self determination of 15 million people of Kashmir.

He said that United Nations made a pledge with the Jammu and Kashmir seven dacades ago to help grant them their right to decide their future and the world body is morally bound to fulfill its promise. AJK Prime Minister said similarly it is responsibility of US President elect being president of most important global country to ensure peace and stability in South Asia by resolving Kashmir issue. Terming Kashmir as root cause of tension between India and Pakistan, Farooq Haider warned that most dangerous conflict should be matter of concern for the world as it could trigger the next nuclear conflict on the planet.

Commenting on the mediation offer by UN Secretary General, Prime Minister said it is matter of choice for the United Nations but fundamental responsibility to settle this conflict still pending on its agenda.

The Prime Minister also expressed his concerns over the detention of Kashmiri leadership in Occupied Kashmir and called upon the Indian government to fulfill its human rights obligations as well as its commitments under UN resolutions. He said world forums, which stand witness to our issue , act as mute spectators, thereby legitimizing and legalising the brutalities unleashed in the territory for the last 70 years. Had these super powers acted to their tall claims, India could not have dared to continue its repression and peace would have been ensured since long. The Prime Minister said the people of Kashmir have used every democratic and peaceful means for about 40 years to fight this aggression but India has responded ruthlessly and without giving an ear to the aspirations and just voices, is negating the historical legitimacy of this issue. Those who called on PM including AJK minister for Finance Dr.Najeeb Naqi,minister for Food Syed Shaukat Shah and ex minister Sardar Naeem Khan were also present on the occasion.
