Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif vowed to continue the journey of national development with full spirit till accomplishing Allama Iqbal’s dream of a modern state.He said expansion of the road network was an essential component of his agenda as development could not be taken to the remote areas without highways and motorways. The roads would also bring the people closer to each other, Nawaz stated.Addressing the inauguration ceremony of the Greater Iqbal Park, he said that a clear warning should be displayed outside the park that the facility was not for holding sit-ins as they continued searching for such sites.The prime minister unveiled the plaque to open the facility that would provide a unique entertainment opportunity to the people besides adding another landmark to the country’s culture and history.Spread over around 120 acres, the park is almost entirely surrounded by the old city of Lahore and located very close to Minar-e-Pakistan, Mausoleum of Allama Iqbal and Lahore Fort.Visitors can lounge on rolling lawns and have a panoramic view of the symbolic Minar-e-Pakistan, the majestic Lahore Fort, the iconic Azadi Interchange and the historic Badshahi Mosque that also shelters the tomb of Allama Iqbal.Special pavilions have been established at the park, which represents the culture of all the federating units of the country.The prime minister said the park was the nexus of the past and the future as it was surrounded by the Badshahi Mosque representing a glorious past and Minar-e-Pakistan that reminded the dream for a bright future.The Greater Iqbal Park had opened another beautiful chapter in the beauty of Lahore, said the prime minister who congratulated the chief minister and his team.The prime minister also lauded them for beautifying the tomb of Hafeez Jalandhari, who wrote the lyrics of the national anthem of Pakistan, located in the very park.He suggested to the Punjab government to install more lights in and around the park to illuminate the area to attract more people even at night and apprised the audience that the renovation of Lahore Fort would start soon.He said just like economy, energy and other sectors, the previous governments also ignored tourism and culture but his government was paying due attention to the subject.The prime minister mentioned different development programmes being executed across the country, especially in Balochistan. He reiterated his government’s resolve to overcome loadshedding within its tenure which would boost industry, agriculture, exports stock market, foreign exchange reserves and ultimately create ample employment opportunities. The park will not only increase beauty to the historic Lahore city but also attract both local and foreign tourists given its location in the midst of historic sites. The initiative taken by government of Punjab is laudable because preserving country’s cultural heritage and glorious past plays a vital role and serves as a source of inspiration and pride for its people. This will not only provide healthy entertainment to people but also bring them back close to the culture reminding them of struggle and sacrifices made by our forefathers for the creation of this great motherland. All political parties and stakeholders should ensure its safety by avoiding any activity which may harm it.
