Australia :Pakistan’s fiery pacer Wahab Riaz and leg-spinner Yasir Shah put aside their differences after the two got into a scuffle during the team’s practice session at The Gabba on Wednesday ahead of the first test against Australia which starts Thursday.
Yasir Shah tweeted a picture of the two players together after news of the scuffle made headlines in Pakistan.
According to the players present at the site, the two players had a spat during the team’s practice session when they were in the middle of a football game.
Head coach Mickey Arthur, along with other players, rushed to intervene and mitigated the situation.
The scuffle resulted in a tensed situation in the Pakistan camp. Team officials held a meeting soon afterward to review the incident.
Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) chairman Shahryar Khan said the players had sought forgiveness, stating that they were both hot headed and such fights were not a big issue. The PCB chairman did make it clear that no matter the player if there had been a violation in the disciplinary policy, action would be taken.
Pakistan, under Misbah-ul-Haq’s tutelage, are looking to make history in Australia and eyeing a series win after 11 fruitless tours Down Under.
Pakistan have won only four of their 32 Tests in Australia and have lost their last nine Tests since their last victory in Sydney in 1995.
No team from the sub-continent has won a Test series in Australia.
Wahab Riaz said earlier he will target Australia’s key batting pair Steve Smith and David Warner in this week’s opening day-night Test in Brisbane.
“Obviously I have to do what I do really well, I am going to bowl aggressively, I will bowl short as well,” said Wahab, who has taken 65 wickets in his 21 Tests since debuting in 2010.
“You have to attack David Warner and Steve Smith. You cannot look for them to give you their wicket. You have to buy their wickets.”
