Jammu: In occupied Kashmir, Vice Chancellor of Jammu University Prof RD Sharma has questioned the killing of Hizbul Mujahideen commander Burhan Wani saying “he should have been caught alive and later sent to jail.” The VC while responding to the media queries on the closure of educational institutes in Kashmir since the killing of Hizb Commander Burhan Wani four months ago, said “Government needs to be careful while dealing with the militants who have sympathizers in public.” “As Kashmir is a sensitive issue awaiting solution for the last over 70 years, it is the time we should change our strategy on Kashmir. We have to be careful in dealing with those militants who have footing at the grass-root level or who have well-wishers in public”, R D Sharma told reports during a media interaction convened at his office chamber. Prof Sharma said, “India has to introspect now as to why people were up in arms in Kashmir over the killing of Burhan Wani.” Sharing his experience, JU VC, said during two and half years while working in the university, he found Kashmiri students very dedicated and hard working. “Kashmiri students are highly career conscious, hard workers, enlightened, dedicated and I know they cannot tolerate any sort of discrimination with them.  So, for me, it is really painful to see those children endorsing the Bandh (strike). We need to introspect”, he said. He said, “I too wonder as to why now children in Kashmir want to remain uneducated, why people want to do or die, why they want this agitation to end with a solution. These developments are really disturbing”. “I personally think militants should not be killed. I believe it would have been better to jail the militants rather than kill them”, he added further describing the persistent deadlock in Kashmir since July 9 as worrisome.
