Srinagar:Â JKLF (R) Chief Patron Barrister Abdul Majid Trumbo on Sunday said that detaining the people under the Public Safety Act is extremely unlawful. Barrister while referring to the joint statement of Amnesty International, the International Committee of Jurists and Human Rights Watch, wherein they have asked state authorities to stop slapping harsh laws against people and minor children. Barrister while lashing out at authorities said that they have unleashed a reign of terror by slapping PSA and on mere pretext detain for long periods. While referring to 78-year-old retired teacher Gh Mustafa Wani(Baramulla), Barrister said that authorities without looking into age and gender have misusing this to curb their opponents and said that Gh Mustafa is elderly and suffering from multiple ailments and it shocking that how a 78-year-old can instigate violence. It is sheer frustration of administration said barrister and even religious clerics were booked and it is out of political vengeance and even minor were booked under draconian law of Public Safety Act. The law has often been used to detain people on vague grounds for long periods ignoring all legal procedures said Barrister impressed world rights bodies to have look into grave violations of basic rights and use its influence for the release of minors and elderly people.
Barrister condemned ransacking of public properties including automobiles, fruit and orchids in Nagbal Shopian and said that Indian forces went berserk and destroyed that came in their way. While referring to state authorities, Barrister said that operation ransacking is aimed to cripple economy of state.
