Brussels:Â AJK Prime Minister Raja Farooq Haider Khan on Thursday said the decades-old UN Security Council resolutions calling for a plebiscite in the disputed region of Jammu and Kashmir are still valid.
“The UN Security Council resolutions gave Kashmiris the right to decide their future, through a plebiscite, through the exercise of their right of self-determination. Those resolutions are as valid today as they were adopted. That is our legal position,†the Prime Minister said while addressing a conference held in connection with Kashmir EU Week in Brussels.
He urged the international community to exert pressure on India to implement United Nations relevant resolutions on Kashmir.AJK Prime Minister called upon the civilized world to take serious note of worst human rights abuses by Indian forces in occupied Jammu and Kashmir. He said that durable peace in South Asia could not be established without resolving the longstanding Kashmir dispute in accordance with the aspirations of Kashmiris. Raja Farooq Haider Khan also drew the attention of world community towards the unprovoked Indian shelling at Line of Control which is resulting in causalities of civilian population. He said that India could not suppress the indigenous Kashmir liberation movement through the use of brutal force in held territory.
He asked the Kashmiris settled in Europe and other countries of the world to highlight Kashmir issue in its true perspective and exposed Indian atrocities being perpetrated on innocent people in the held valley.
Speaking on the occasion Member of European Parliament Sajjad Karim said that people of Jammu and Kashmir should be given right to decide their political future. Referring to his correspondence with high officials of European Union in he which he demanded inclusion of Kashmiri representatives in the dialogue process.
