Former captain Wasim Akram heaped praise on Pakistan cricket team and especially Asad Shafiq for his relentless century knock which saw Pakistan almost pull off a record-breaking win in Test history.
Speaking to the Agency , the ‘Swing ka Sultan’ said no amount of appreciation can be enough for Asad Shafiq whose brave innings defied all odds against Australia.
“What a performance. This is an unforgettable innings by Pakistan,†he said, adding that Pakistan would have gone down in record books had they managed to complete the chase.
“If we had won this Test it would have been a huge record. It would have taken a very long time to get broken.â€
The cricket great said he was happy to see that Pakistan finally managed to put Australia on the defensive.
“The team piled pressure on Australia, you could see they were clearly on the back foot during the fourth innings, which is an achievement no doubt.â€
Australia captured Pakistan’s last two wickets to win a captivating first day-night test in Brisbane by 39 runs on Monday, but the touring side won huge admiration for their fourth innings resistance.
Chasing a test record 490 for victory, Pakistan had resumed the final day on 382-8 but paceman Mitchell Starc proved the game-breaker when he ended a stubborn 71-run ninth-wicket partnership between Asad Shafiq and Yasir Shah. Pakistan were eventually dismissed for 450.
