Srinagar: In occupied Kashmir, the Chairman of Hurriyet forum, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq, while terming the unresolved Kashmir dispute as the main cause of strained relationship between Pakistan and India has said that the violence and the loss of precious lives in this region cannot be a matter to rejoice for any person with a slightest sense of humanity.
Mirwaiz Umar Farooq addressing a public gathering at the Shrine of Dastageer Sahib in Sara-i-Bala area of Srinagar urged India to shun its policy of delay and obduracy towards the resolution of the lingering dispute and come up with positive initiatives to address it.
“The tactics of use of force, suppression and killing people is not going to bring any change on the ground in Kashmir because the resistance movement of Kashmir has strong historical political and ethical foundation and from 1947 now the movement has transferred to the Kashmiris’ fourth generation, which in reaction to the oppressive policies of the Government of India has taken to the streets that has given rise to a dangerous situation,†he said.
The Mirwaiz said that because of the Kashmir dispute, blood was spilling and precious lives were being lost in the entire region which was extremely sorrowful. However, he added, that the situation can be altered if a solution to Kashmir conflict in accordance with the aspirations of the Kashmiri is found.
Referring to pro-India parties, the forum Chairman said, “These parties should also realize that the talk of peace and development would remain meaningless unless there is not a favourable atmosphere for the same.†These people (pro-India politicians) should think above the narrow vested interest of power and play their role in an honourable solution of the Kashmir dispute in accordance with the wishes of the people of Kashmir because without that the dream of peace and prosperity in the region will remain elusive, he added.
Later, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq led a procession from the shrine to the Hari Singh High Street Chowk in which a large number of people participated. The participants raised high-pitched pro-freedom and pro-Islam slogans.
