Islamabad: The Supreme Court Chief Justice, Mian Saqib Nisar, on Monday said that if he (chief justice) was in Hashmi’s place, he would have drowned in shame.
The chief justice remarked during hearing of a sou motu case against PML-N leader Nehal Hashmi.
As the hearing underwent, Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz leader Nehal Hashmi pleaded the Supreme Court for forgiveness in second contempt of court case against him.
“He is at the mercy of the court,” Hashmi told the three-member bench led by Chief Justice Mian Saqib Nisar.
Responding to Hashmi, the chief justice asked, is it possible to precede a case after your abusive talk.
The PML-N leader replied he didn’t talk against judiciary. After that, the chief justice responded, then let see who talked against judiciary. The chief justice asked the court staff to play Hashmi’s viedo once again.
The chief justice remarked you cursed the court and now tell us why you did all that? Hashmi responded the remarks were not against the judiciary.
Responding Hashmi, Justice Ijazul Hassan asked then who was listening political case? Hashmi is saying this after spending one month imprisonment, the chief justice remarked.
The chief justice further said Hashmi spent most of time in hospital, instead of jail, on the pretext of illness, adding that despite he was well informed about the matter, didn’t take any action against him.
The chief justice asked what kind of activities, he is involved, each and everything in is his knowledge.
In response to Hashmi’s plea for forgiveness, the chief justice remarked, “How can you appeal for forgiveness,” adding that if he was in Hashmi’s place, he would have drowned in shame.
The hearing of the case has been adjourned till tomorrow.
It is pertinent to mention here that Hashmi had been awarded one-month imprisonment by the apex court in January for anti-judiciary remarks last year.
Hashmi was summoned again after a video of him using abusive language against the judiciary surfaced.
On March 12, Hashmi submitted his reply which was rejected by the court, disqualifying him for any public position in a contempt of court case.
