Muzaffarabad: (Parliament Times) Terming Amnesty International’s recent report on pellet gun attacks in Indian occupied Kashmir as an eye-opener for the international community the President of Azad Jammu and Kashmir Sardar Masood Ahmed Khan has said that India needs to be brought to justice over the atrocious human rights violations committed by its so-called security forces in the disputed territory.
The AJK president Sardar Masood Ahmed Khan said this while talking to Prime Minister Raja Mohammad Farooq Haider Khan who called on him at the President Secretariat here on Sunday. The duo discussed in detail the matters of political significance, establishment of Shariah Appellate Bench, governance, and ongoing development initiatives in AJK during the meeting.
Speaking on the occasion Khan said that pellet guns were deliberately used to terrorize and permanently blind peaceful demonstrators. “Peaceful struggle for right to self determination is the basic right of every human being and this right cannot be taken away from the people Kashmir by the intimidation of the Indian Occupation Forcesâ€, he said.
The President urged the international community to admonish India over the indiscriminate use of pellet guns against the unarmed Kashmiri civilians. Condemning the recent shelling by Indian Forces of villages adjoining the LOC in Azad Jammu and Kashmir, the President said, “The Indian forces are deliberately targeting citizens on both sides of the border and creating a humanitarian crisis. This is a continuous violation of the ceasefire agreement over the LOC.” The President expressed his confidence on the preparedness of the Pakistan Army for any retaliatory action against the Indian forces.
Both the leaders demanded immediate halt to the atrocities taking place in occupied Kashmir. The Prime Minister Raja Farooq Haider Khan apprised the President that legislation for the establishment of Shariah Appellate Bench has been completed and the legislation has also been enacted for provision of the constitutional protection for the Bench.
Settling apprehensions over the functioning of the Shariah Appellate Bench; the President said that the Bench will comprise of Honorable Judges of the High Court who will be assisted by a leading religious scholar. “The basic framework of good governance finds its strength for a strong and effective judiciaryâ€, said the President.
Both the President and Prime Minister expressed their deepest concern over the genocide taking place in Myanmar against the Rohingya Muslims; where they are being mercilessly killed and chased away from their ancestral abode. Both leaders urged the United Nations to impose strict diplomatic and economic sanctions on Myanmar in order to halt the killings.
