Islamabad: National Assembly standing committee for Railways was informed that Pakistan Railways (PR) has been getting one rupee per acre annually against the land leased to Pakistan army across the country.
The meeting of NA standing committee for Railways held here with the chair of Syed Naveed Qamar at Parliament House on Friday.
“The land is under the use of Pakistan army, DHA is using more than 14 acre of land in Bahawalpur against the policy of PR,” the committee was informed.
Shops constructed on Railways’ land have been sealed over 5.5 million rupees in Mandi Usmanwala area.
Pakistan Railways still creating hurdles in construction of a road on its 1.5 canal area near Lahore-Qasoor road even after taking 2.8 million rupees while accidents have become routine as railway gate remains open in Khuddiyan Municipal committee-a house of 60,000 people.
Chairman committee Syed Naveed Qamar terming Council of Common Interest (CCI) as the best forum to commercialize Railways land under the use of Pak Army and provincial governments recommended secretary railways to present report in one month after enquiry regarding leasing of shops to one man against the law in Mandi Usmanwala.
Chairman committee has asked secretary to present report in 24 hours regarding solution of Lahore-Qasoor 1.5 kilometer road issue.
