Gwadar is currently submerged underwater, causing immense hardship for its residents. People struggle to find a place to sit or sleep amidst the devastation. Heavy rains have wreaked havoc in Gwadar, Makran, and other parts of Balochistan, disrupting normal life and traffic. The financial repercussions are severe, and the floods have caused significant damage. The relentless rainfall persisted for 30 hours, resulting in five casualties, damage to a thousand homes and commercial structures, and displacement of many individuals. Additionally, over 80 boats belonging to low-income fishers were destroyed, leaving them without livelihoods. Fishermen are left idle as the sea water inundated Gwadar Bazar. Unfortunately, the government’s support for the people of Gwadar is inadequate. While Oman has assisted, Pakistani leaders have directed resources primarily to Islamabad instead of prioritizing Gwadar’s needs. I urge the government to hold accountable leaders who neglect the rights of Gwadar’s people. Immediate action is needed to drain the water, provide relief, and ensure the well-being of the residents.”
