He said that the participants on the occasion placed an important emphasis on the fact that the issue of Jammu Kashmir is not a bilateral territorial dispute between India and Pakistan to be resolved by them only. They unanimously agreed upon the fact that it is a matter of independence and unfettered right to self-determination of a nation with over twenty-two million population living in the disputed State of Jammu Kashmir currently divided between, and administered by India, Pakistan, and China that could only be achieved through active participation of principle party to the dispute, the Kashmiri representative, in any dialogue process on Kashmir issue between India and Pakistan.
According to the spokesman, many important and valuable recommendations were put forward during the presentations made by the speakers including holding meetings of the JKLF delegation with the British All Parties Parliamentary Group on Kashmir (APPG) and the British Foreign Select Committee (FSC) so that they are apprised about the situation of HRV’s in Jammu Kashmir especially about the injustices done with Yasin Malik and other political prisoners. The British MPs were recommended to write to both the august bodies, APPG and FSC, about Yasin Malik for necessary actions from their respective offices. MP’s were recommended to let their political parties, especially the Labor Party, incorporate “just resolution of Kashmir issue through grant of unfettered RSD to the people of the entire State of Jammu Kashmir” in their election manifesto.
The participants further suggested to let UK and the international community urge India and Pakistan to find ways and means to let the divided families from across the ceasefire line (LOC-read by both the countries) in Jammu Kashmir be able to meet each other. UK Parliament be urged to form a group of its MPs as a ‘Fact Finding Mission’ to be sent to visit and assess the on-ground situation of HRV’s taking place in Jammu Kashmir with free public access to the visiting mission.
