Afzal Ziai call upon the international community, human rights organizations, and people of conscience to condemn these egregious violations of human rights and religious freedoms in occupied Kashmir.

“The Kashmiri people deserve the right to practice their faith and express their beliefs without fear of persecution or reprisal. We stand in solidarity with Mirwaiz Umar Farooq, the people of Kashmir, and all those who are unjustly oppressed in IIOJK, he’d
declared.

He continued that Mirwaiz Umar Farooq had long been a symbol of peaceful resistance and a voice for the oppressed people of Indian Illegally occupied Jammu Kashmir state.

” By silencing him and preventing him from fulfilling his religious duties and obligations, the the Indian occupying forces were not only suppressing dissent but also denying the Kashmiri people their right to religious expression and gathering “, he added.

Ziai said that the closure of the Jamia Masjid Srinagar on such significant religious occasions was deeply troubling and indicative of the oppressive tactics employed by the authorities to stifle the religious and cultural identity of the Kashmiri people. The Jamia Masjid holds immense spiritual and cultural significance for the people of Kashmir, and its closure represents a direct attack on their religious freedoms and traditions of the suppressed Kashmiri Muslims in the i ternation-recovnised disputed Jammu Kashmir state in Indian unlawful occupation, he said.

“The timing of these actions, during the holy month of Ramadan and on the night of Laylatul Qadr, the holy night believed to be more sacred than a thousand months, adds further insult to injury. It is a clear demonstration of the callous disregard for the religious sentiments of the Kashmiri Muslims and a deliberate attempt to undermine their faith and resilience”? the Kashmiri leader categorically stated.
