Rawalpindi, (Parliament Times): Commissioner Rawalpindi Division Engineer Aamir Khattak while presiding over the meeting held to solve the issues of traffic said that encroachments are the main reason for the traffic jam problem. Apart from this, road construction and repair, non-availability of parking, and road engineering as well as untrained drivers are add-ones for traffic problems. He said that warnings have been issued once again to all stakeholders and especially shopkeepers regarding encroachment. Commissioner warned of strict action against violators and said that indiscriminate operation to be launched in order create an effective deterrence. Apart from this, people should be given special awareness regarding the implementation of traffic rules as the chronic issue of traffic jam can be reduced to some extent by following the traffic rules. Commissioner Rawalpindi was briefed by traffic police that amount of fine for violations of traffic rules has been increased significantly. 140694 challans have been issued for various violations since January
1st, 2024 till now. According to the details, 313 Challan on over speeding, 4023 on traffic signal violation, 2464 without helmet, 4130 on wrong way and 2982 FIRs have been registered. Along with this, 90836 driving licenses have been issued since January 1, 2024.
In this meeting held at Commissioner Office Rawalpindi, Deputy Commissioner Rawalpindi Dr. Hasan Waqar Cheema, CTO, DGPHA Ahmed Hasan Ranjha, CO Municipal Corporation Amjad Chaudi, CO Rawalpindi Waste Management Company Rana Sajid, Municipal Officer Imran Ahmar and Representatives of Anjuman Tajran participated.
Commissioner Rawalpindi further said that 3800 cameras of the Safe City project are being installed across the city, which will help identify encroachments and traffic jams caused by them immediately. He asked the representatives of Anjuman Tajaran to inform about the anti-encroachment operation in their respective markets. The encroachment has badly affected the life and affairs of the city of Rawalpindi, so there can be no further relaxation or delay in its operation.
