Lahore (PR) : Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif is determined to tackle economic challenges head-on, with a focus on boosting shrimp production and making it more lucrative. Under her guidance, a virtual meeting was convened to discuss measures aimed at increasing shrimp farming and making it beneficial for stakeholders. Speaking at the meeting, Senior Minister Maryam Aurangzeb highlighted the government’s commitment to establishing a culture of shrimp farming in the province, with the aim of making Punjab a role model for this industry.

She said, according to Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif’s vision, efforts will be made to mobilize the private sector for sustainable ocean farming.

The meeting also emphasized the importance of involving small-medium enterprises, foreign experts, consultants, researchers, and young entrepreneurs in business ventures.

The Senior Minister explained that providing facilities to small farmers and addressing their issues is a priority. Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif aims to make fish farming an attractive avenue for youth employment by introducing modern techniques, training programs, and global best practices.

Maryam Aurangzeb added shrimp aquaculture development aims to enhance economic growth in small and medium businesses. Support will be provided for economic and technological transfer, supply chain development, feed manufacturing, and private-sector investment to facilitate the establishment of new industries.

The meeting also outlined plans to increase GDP through shrimp exports and ensure affordable and quality protein for local communities. She emphasized the training of women on preferential grounds for their participation in shrimp aquaculture production and processing will be arranged.

The Chief Minister highlighted the importance of adopting international best management practices at the local level to foster development in shrimp farming. It was announced that existing laws would be improved to provide better regulations and ease of business, with a focus on capacity building for fish farmers.

Senior Minister said timelines were set to establish short-term and long-term strategies for subsidies, market accessibility, breeding, and mutual benefits, aimed at achieving economic prosperity. Maryam Aurangzeb emphasized collaboration between university students, experts, and the private sector to drive research initiatives in partnership with the Punjab government.
