Babar Ali

TheIslamic Republic of Pakistan since its inception has witnessed 18 Prime ministersalong with several caretaker Prime ministers. Beinga Parliamentary governmentthe real power lies in Pakistan outside the parliament and not even a singlePrime minister in historyhas ever completed 5 years tenure. The people are used to the fact thatthe electedPM will either be arrested in politicized corruption cases or will be blackmailed to give up the chair. The democratic and political system of Pakistanisvery weak, for decades dictatorshave ruled over Pakistan. The image and character of political personalities are sobad that the general sympathies of most people lie with dictators. Political stability in Pakistan has never been achieved. It was the political insanity draconian attitude and poor administration that led to theblood-shed and ultimately to the fall of Dhaka in 1971 which was supposed to be united by ideology and religion. Unfortunately, we never learn from our mistakes and not even a slight change is felt in attitude or opinion. The people of Pakistan are in chaos and they lack direction. There is a dilemma of biasednessin the institutions which is very alarming. Political revenge has ruined and disabled the investigationinstitutions and biasedness in the judicial system is causing severe problems. The economy is crumbling, the IMF is not trustingPakistan and there is a ticking clock of default. Foreign investment is declining with each passingday, no sensible investor will invest if there is constant fear of default and security. Indeed the problem is severe and Pakistan desperatelyneeds direction. Usually, people in such a vacuum expect a lot from political leaders.Sadly the political leadership in Pakistanis busy victimizing one another rather than holding the flag of unity and leading from the front. Political parties are more interested in proving their loyalty to the establishment than in formulating plans for the future of Pakistan. Pakistan has the potential to prosper, it is rich in natural resources. Pakistan has a diverse culture and iconic beautiful valleys, deserts, and lakes which can attract tourists. To explore the potentials of Pakistan secure andstress-free environment is direly needed. The political parties should present plans and ideas rather thanplayingthe blame game. Level playing fields for elections should be the prime goal of the election commission and related institutions. Behavior change is needed, we should educate our precariat to speak up for their rights. Civil-militarybureaucracy should be held accountable like ordinary citizens. The democracy in Pakistan is indeed suffering but it can be curedby making the judicial system independent in the true sense. Political parties should be enhanced into political institutions. The polarity in the general public can be neutralized by educating people and creating a sense of unity which has been missing for the last 76 years. Statemen are required to hold people united rather than dividing them for personal gains. Unity, faith, and discipline are key motives that can pave the way for a prosperous Pakistan.
