ISLAMABAD,  (Parliament Times) : Meeting of the Chairman of the Standing Committee on National Defense and Foreign Affairs of the Parliament with the Ambassador of Pakistan
The President of the Standing Committee on National Defense and Foreign Affairs of the Hellenic Parliament, Mrs. Dora Bakoyannis, today had a formal meeting with the Ambassador of Pakistan in Athens, Mr. Muhammad Aamar Aftab Qureshi, at her office in the Parliament.

During the meeting, which was held in a warm atmosphere, Mrs. Bakoyannis referred to the entire network of bilateral relations between Greece and Pakistan, pointing out that there is scope for strengthening cooperation in many areas, and especially in the field of trade, as our country is now a an environment with prospects for stability and economic growth.

With reference to the issue of immigration, Mrs. Bakoyannis pointed out with emphasis the importance that both Greece and the European Union attach to dealing with illegal flows. In this spirit, our country is willing to cooperate with Pakistan in the direction of signing a Memorandum that will regulate legal immigration, always with a view to the protection of human rights, emphasized Ms. Bakoyannis, expecting constructive cooperation from Pakistan in returns management.

For his part, Ambassador Mr. Qureshi presented to Mrs. Bakoyannis aspects of the current situation in Pakistan, making particular reference to the political situation, where elections will be held, the economy and the action of terrorism in his country, but also in the wider region.

During the meeting, the common will to strengthen the bilateral cooperation between Greece and Pakistan was established, while the two sides agreed to strengthen the parliamentary relations between Greece and Pakistan, in a way that will be beneficial for both peoples. Mrs. Dora Bakoyannis also the sister of Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos mitsotakis.
