Rawalpindi, (Parliament Times)  : Commissioner Rawalpindi Division Liaqat Ali
Chatha while talking to the secretaries of Urban Union Councils of Rawalpindi said that the
cleanliness of city should be seen on the ground and not just on paper for the sake of record.
Commissioner Rawalpindi took strict notice of absent secretaries of five union councils
including UC 26, 31, 72, 84, 87 and issued them an explanation call. He said said that such
irresponsibility in the discharge of official duties and non-serious behavior is not acceptable at all. He directed that an immediate committee should be formed under the chairmanship of the secretary at the union council level, which would include the sanitary supervisor, numberdar and local social workers who would be responsible for maintaining cleanliness in the area. The committee should also identify old garbage heaps from where garbage is not being collected and will arrange for its immediate disposal. Liaqat Ali Chatha said that he will visit any of the 02 Union Councils early in the morning every Saturday to review the cleanliness situation and will take a briefing from the concerned secretary on the spot.
He expressed these views while addressing the meeting of the secretaries of the Urban
Union Councils at the Commissioner's Office Rawalpindi. Additional Commissioner
Coordination Syed Nazarat Ali, Chief Officer Municipal Corporation Chaudhry Amjad, Director Local Government, CEO Rawalpindi Waste Management Company Rana Sajid Safdar and secretaries of 70 Urban Unions participated in the meeting.
Commissioner Rawalpindi further directed that the Secretary Union Council should also
check whether the plans of the new building have been passed or not and in case of not being issued, inform the MOP. He said that every secretary should install 2 Panaflex regarding cleanliness in his union council so that local people can also be included in this campaign. He said that cleanliness is half of faith and also guarantees our health, so we have to leave our jurisdiction limits and keep our city clean in order to avoid dengue and other fatal diseases.
