This great novella “The broken wings” has been written by Khalil Gibran. He was a well-known Lebanese-American writer, poet and visual artist as well. This novella signifies is the tragic story of a broken and lost love. The pages are filled with poetic and trenchant wording. This is an easy and purely romantic story of two younger souls. The story starts when Gibran was just 18. He travels to Lebanon at age 23 and meets his father’s friend who is quite a gentleman. He had lost his wife when his daughter was in her adolescent stage. He invites Gibran to his house and tells him about his father’s friendship. This book testifies to Gibran and Salma’s parity and good manners. Moreover, the story portrays the unhappy married life of Selma, who got married to a Bishop’s son. Selma was in love with her father’s close friend’s son who is the protagonist of the story. But, due to occurrences, they could not lead their relationship to marriage. Yet, they both loved each other with their souls. They secretly came together at an old temple. After all, the novel is a bit sorrowful. It tightly carries the bond flourished with infinite between two hearts. Also, the author discloses patriarchal culture and community where it’s problematic for a woman to choose her destiny in the story. I will suggest everyone looking for a novella must go for it.
