PESHAWAR, (Raja Furqan Ahmed) : The death toll from the suicide attack on a mosque in Peshawar’s Police Lines area rose to 100 on Tuesday after more bodies were recovered from the attack site. Lady Reading Hospital (LRH) spokesperson Mohammad Asim said in a statement that 100 dead bodies had been brought to the medical facility. In a statement, he said 53 injured citizens were currently being treated seven of whom had been admitted to the intensive care unit (ICU). He added that most of the injured were out of danger, adding that all the injured were being provided medical facilities free of cost. While briefing the media on the attack, KP Police Inspector General (IG) Moazzam Jah Ansari said that the attacker brought the explosive material to the Police Lines in small amounts over time, as construction work was ongoing at the site. The attacker later detonated the explosives, estimated to weigh between 10-12 kgs, using a suicide jacket; he added. He said that most of the deaths were caused because people remained stuck under the debris for a long time. IG said that the checking was carried out at the gate of Police Lines, adding that there was a lapse somewhere. The preliminary investigation report of the suicide attack has also been submitted to Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif. The report states that evidence of the suicide attack has been found at the crime scene. Meanwhile, Counter Terrorism Department (CTD) has obtained the footage of surrounding closed circuit television (CCTV) cameras. On Monday, a suicide bomber, who was standing in the first row when Zuhr prayers were being offered in the mosque, blew himself up, causing massive destruction. The terrorist attack was widely condemned by local politicians and world leaders. Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, who visited Peshawar shortly after the blast, has called for the implementation of the National Action Plan (NAP) with full force. In a statement, the premier said such cowardly terror attacks couldn’t weaken the resolve of the nation against terrorism, adding that the miscreants and their facilitators involved in attacks on innocent citizens would be punished for their heinous crimes. The premier said terrorists were attacking the security institutions, which were defending Pakistan, adding the terrorists were making a nefarious attempt to create an atmosphere of fear and terror in the country. He also called for implementing the National Action Plan (NAP) with full force to curb the resurgence of terrorism.
