Climate change is an ever-accelerating threat to human life and civilization that needs a permanent solution. It’s not just about rising sea levels, extreme weather patterns, droughts and floods. It’s about all of these things colliding to one extent or another, creating a perfect storm for severe consequences. Pakistan is particularly vulnerable to climate change because its geography is acutely affected by the Himalayan Mountain Range and the Thar Desert. These two geographical features act as natural barriers to limit the warming of the region from inside, but they also trap masses of hot air outside. Hence why it gets so damn hot in Pakistan too much for our taste! The other problem we face is deforestation. Deforestation initiates from agriculture, which in turn fuels the rapid urbanization that has come with it over the last few decades. All of this means that we will see more frequent and more devastating droughts in future years as well as rising sea levels due to thermal expansion (more on that here). What is climate change? Climate change is the result of rapid global warming in the 21st century due to human activities. It is a result of two major factors: CO 2 fertilization and adoption of high-emissions technologies. CO 2 fertilization has led to an increase in the level of greenhouse gases in the atmosphere, which in turn has aggravated the effects of climate change. CO 2 is a potent greenhouse gas that raises the temperature of the Earth’s surface by up to 1? C. On the other hand, the adoption of high-emissions technologies, like oil palm trees and the growth of food production and transportation, has been a significant factor in preventing the temperature increase caused by CO 2 from becoming a reality. What can be done to stop climate change? Besides the obvious things like climate control and carbon emissions cuts, there are a number of other things we can do to protect the environment and put ourselves in a position to deal with climate change more effectively. Here are a few ideas that could help: Climate change and its effects In order to stop climate change, it’s essential to understand how climate change is happening. The Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) has been conducting deep research into climate change for the past 40 years and has identified several contributing factors. However, it’s important to recognize that these factors are not static and that changes can and will occur. It is crucial to identify where and when changes are likely to take place so that we can prepare ourselves for the changes. To keep our climate system stable, we need to understand the various stages that our environment is in as it evolves. So, what can we do to prepare for the next stage in our environment? The important work that needs to be done to fight climate change in pakistan Bundling down resources to the bone is not a solution to climate change. It’s a solution to overdevelopment and an inherent tendency to fight. Climate change is a challenge that requires a counter-action, not a one-off act. That is why to tackle climate change effectively we need to build upon the strengths that we already have. In order to best fight climate change, it’s essential to invest in capable and incentivized teams that can tackle the challenge head-On. Those teams will have to be equipped with the right equipment, the right people and the right strategies. But to do this, it’s critical that these teams are given the proper time and resources to succeed. Caring for our planet will reduce the impact of climate change by 1/3. This is what we as humans can do to help solve the problem. What else does humanity have to do? Oceans absorb about a quarter of the Earth’s carbon emissions and, therefore, about one quarter of the benefit of climate change will flow to them. Hence, it is essential to bring about a shift in our thinking so that we do not automatically assume that the more we care for our planet, the more likely it will be to protect us from climate change. To help us to best care for the Earth, it’s essential to promote sustainable development. This means a holistic approach that closely involves all of the following elements: A healthy forest system A healthy aquatic system A habitable arid or semi-arid environment A secure and viable agriculture system A healthy and distributed healthcare system To promote sustainable development, it is essential to make sure that there is strong, persistent and effective government regulation of all aspects of social and ecological life in our society. And, as a crucial part of sustainable development, it is essential to ensure that such regulation is based on sound, legitimate and objective data, without regard for political or economic agendas
