Mirpurkhas,  (Parliament Times) : Renowned psychologist of Mirpurkhas division, Dr. Lakesh Kumar Khatri, has said that until mental health is given priority, health cannot be complete. He said that the population of our country is about 230 million and we have 600 psychiatrist doctors while the population of Mirpurkhas district is about 17 to 18 lakh. A psychiatrist doctor is appointed. And we have an official doctor appointed for the population of millions. He expressed this information on the occasion of World Mental Health Day in Mirpurkhas during an awareness meeting held at a local hotel with the support of Getz Pharma and the platform of Pakistan Psychiatrist Society. Addressing the program, Dr. Lakesh Kumar Khatri said regarding mental health that the prevalence of mental illnesses in the world is 15 to 25 percent in developed countries and 75 to 85 percent in developing countries, including Pakistan. More than 90% of people do not reach a psychiatrist because of the high needs and low resources, the lack of psychiatrists, the lack of awareness among people about psychological diseases, and the fact that the disease is perceived as a social stigma. And Advocate Kashif Bajeer, founder of Omidgah informed about the increasing number of suicides in Mirpurkhas division and the causes. Vice President of Pakistan Medical Association Sindh Dr. Vasdev Krishnani informed about the health problems in his various relief medical camps in the current flood situation.
