MUZAFFARABAD, (Parliament Times):  The Muzaffarabad based ‘Print and Digital Media Association’ (PDMA) has urged all members of the journalist community to offer donations according to their capacity for the flood affected people of Pakistan.
In a statement on Saturday, PDMA president Tariq Naqash recalled how the people from across Pakistan had come rushing in to the aid of the survivors of the devastating 2005 earthquake in Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK).
“From youngsters to elders, from students to white-collar workers and from street vendors to shopkeepers and traders, hardly anyone was left behind in extending help both in cash and kind to the survivors,” he said.
He said since most areas of Pakistan had been hit hard by the worst ever flooding, affecting at least 33 million and killing more than 935 people since mid-June, it was incumbent upon the Kashmiris to reciprocate the compassion and generosity demonstrated by their Pakistani brethren particularly in the aftermath of the 2005 temblor.
Mr Naqash informed that the PDMA treasurer Abbas Gardezi had been detailed to collect donations from the media community, particularly members of the body, to be transferred to the flood-affected people through official channels.
“Donate whatever is your capacity within three days so that we can make our small contribution in assistance to the flood affected brethren in Pakistan without further loss of time,” he said.
