ISLAMABAD: Rashid Khan is expected to play a key role when Mohammad Nabi’s Afghanistan lock horns with DasunShanaka’s Sri Lanka on Saturday.
Afghanistan cricketer Rashid Khan, on Saturday, August 27, posted a video where he can be seen wielding the willow with pretty good effect. The Young Turk is set to take part in the 2022 edition of the Asia Cup where the Afghans are placed along with Sri Lanka and Bangladesh in Group B.
Mohammad Nabi’s Afghanistan are scheduled to lock horns with Sri Lanka, led by DasunShanaka, in their first match on Saturday at Dubai International Cricket Stadium. Prior to the game, Rashid warmed up in the nets with some massive blows.
In the clip, Rashid was seen smashing one down the ground with the utmost ease. Thereafter, he played a couple of no-look helicopter shots on the leg side. He played a similar shot while representing Lahore Qalandars in the 2022 Pakistan Super League (PSL).
Rashid is the second-highest wicket-taker in T20s in the world, but the fact that he is more than a handy batter can’t be overlooked by any stretch of the imagination.
Rashid is a part of Afghanistan’s power-packed spin-attack for the Asia Cup. While Rashid is expected to make inroads into the opposition batting lineups, the Afghans will also be wantingMujeeb Ur Rahman, Noor Ahmad and skipper Nabi to step up and deliver.
Last time around, when Afghanistan faced Sri Lanka in the Asia Cup 2018, although in the 50-over format, Mujeeb, Rashid and Nabi picked up two wickets apiece.
Earlier this year, in June, left-arm wrist spinner Noor Ahmad picked up a four-wicket haul on his T20 debut against Zimbabwe at Harare Sports Club.
