Muzaffarabad, (City Reporter) : The Pakistan Red Crescent Society AJK State Branch under its Program Risk Awareness & Safer Behaviour (RASB) concluded its campaign with regard to explosives and drifted mines here on today.
The campaign was aimed to raise awareness about explosives and drifted mines among local communities of Leepa. In this context, meetings with high officials of government including the army, Rescue 1122, civil defence, Education, bar council, police and journalists were held. In addition, awareness sessions for community members, and educational institutions (Read Foundation, Army Public School) were also held to raise awareness about explosives and to adapt safer behaviour so that precious lives could be saved.
Speaking on the occasion, Program Coordinator Risk Awareness & Safer Behaviour Yasir Arafat Kazmi reiterated and stressed raising awareness through Pakistan Red Crescent Staff, volunteers, community focal persons and stakeholders. He further said that there is a dire need to work on this issue and the Pakistan Red Crescent Society AJK is committed to preventing and alleviating the suffering of humanity.
“Every year many people along the Line of Control (LoC) people lost their lives or become the victim of drifted landmines”, he added.
It is also worth mentioning that during the torrential rain of Monsoon 2022 there have been a number of UXOs were found in the Leepa sector.
While addressing to the journalists here at Leepa Press club Mr Kazmi has said that there is a dire need to address this issue. “I would request to all stakeholders and especially journalists of the Leepa to play their active role through print & electronic Media so that precious lives can be saved.
At the end of the three days campaigns stakeholders including the army, police, and civil defence applauded the efforts of Pakistan Red Crescent Society’s overall efforts in AJK and specifically in district Jehlum valley.
