ISLAMABAD,  (Parliament Times) : The government does not have a mechanism for pricing paper and printing materials. Shopkeepers voluntarily raise prices, citing a rise in the value of the dollar. When asked about the rates in the market, the shopkeepers say that the value of the dollar has gone up a lot which has led to such a huge increase in the prices of paper.

45 grams of newsprint paper has gone up from Rs. 2050 to Rs. 2700 in a week. Similarly, 42 gram paper has grown up from Rs. 1900 to Rs. 2400.

The increase in paper and printing material at unspecified rates or formulas across the country is a matter of urgency and it is time to take action as this is the case because if this situation continues then companies including newspapers, magazines and book printing companies will will be forced to close.
