Aijaz Ali Narejo
2nd march 2022 marks 99th birth anniversary of renowned sung poet MUBARAK Ali Sheikh, who became famous as poet Sheikh Ayaz in the world of literature, was born on 2 march 1923 in Shikarpur. He studied law and also served as vice-chancellor of Sindh University Jamshoro but owing to his deep interest in literature remained involved in poetry in sindhi and urdu language.He was equally popular for his romantic and revolutionary poetry. He tried to awake Sindhi nation through his poetry and wrote many revolutionary poem such as; “I accept my crimes, I have committed many crimes. Blue lotus blossoming in sewer, and chakor bird flying in darkness, Are all criminals. Isn’t it a crime That I have kneaded anew, The clay of man? Yes, I accept my crimes.” He represented the conscience of a historically ancient but relatively marginalized people of the Indus Valley, he was against the evil social norms and traditions which suppressed the rights of the common people.Moreover, Sheikh Ayaz was the author of more than 50 books on poetry, biographies, plays and short stories in both Sindhi and Urdu languages. His translations of Shah Jo Risalo, which was written by the 18th-century Sufi poet Shah Abdul Latif Bhittai, from Sindhi to Urdu language established him as an authority in his domain. He received Sitara-i-Imtiaz for his literary works and is regarded as a “revolutionary and romantic poet”. He died on december 28, 1997 and was buried next to the shrine of Shah Abdul Latif Bhittai.(R.A).In 2018, a university, Shaikh Ayaz University, was established and was named after him.Sindh remembers him for his eminent work in the field of literature. Even after decades he is still voice of many hearts.
