Karachi(Daily Parliament Times): Sindh High Court (SHC) here Wednesday reserved judgment on a constitutional
petition of Pasban Democratic Party (PDP) against closure of six roads in district South of megacity Karachi.
A SHC comprising chief justice Ahmed Ali M Shaikh and Justice Yousuf Ali Saeed heard the petition that was filed on the instructions of PDP Chairman Altaf Shakoor. Pasban lawyer Irfan Aziz Advocate read out a judgement of the Supreme Court of Pakistan regarding keeping opening roads and streets. He also gave reference of the Article 189 of the Construction of Pakistan and prayed the honorable court to nullify the orders of Deputy
Commissioner South regarding the closure of the roads.
However, the honorable court reserved its verdict.
Advocate Irfan Aziz maintained that new no-go areas have been created by closing down main roads. He said citizens pay their taxes and it is their right that streets and roads are kept open for free movement of public. He said parking mafia is benefited by road closures and corrupt bureaucrats get extortion of millions of rupees at the cost of taxpayers. He said the citizens of Karachi hope that apex court would order opening of the closed roads in district South.
Later, talking to journalists at the Media Chowk, he said that they would welcome the verdict of the court. He said the verdict was given against them they would challenge it in the Supreme
Court of Pakistan. He said that IGP Traffic has blamed DC South for this issue and said that on the recommendation of traffic engineering wing of KDA, the deputy commissioner had issued orders for closure of these roads
