Islamabad, (Parliament Times) : Chromatic Trust has signed a MOU with the Inter University Consortium to create awareness among masses with the help of students on harms of tobacco use in Pakistan.
The MOU was signed by Mr. Murtaza Noor Coordinator Inter University Consortium and Mr. Irfan Khan, Project Manager Chromatic Trust in a local hotel Islamabad, today.
Keeping in view the increasing trends of smoking in educational institutions both organizations will jointly organize seminars, screenings of documentaries and will take special initiatives by utilizing media campuses of university falling in the list of Consortium to discourage smoking addiction among youth of Pakistan. The campaign will also focus on use of digital/social media to enforce the anti tobacco initiatives, it will help in raising awareness amongst students of these 70+ universities.
On this occasion Mr. Shariq Khan, CEO Chromatic Trust said, “This is a significant MoU as we feel that the collaboration with Inter University Consortium will help us to save the future of the country’s 60 percent young population from being targeted by the tobacco industry. It will also help in generating pressure on the government so that they take necessary steps to curb the menace of tobacco”
The tobacco epidemic is one of the biggest public health threats in Pakistan. According to recent research reports 1200 pakistani children between the ages of 6 to 12 start smoking every day and it kills more than 170,000 people every year in the country. Pakistan Health Research Council’s figures reveal that it causes 615 billion Rupees loss to health sector annually.
