The importance of the agricultural sector can be gauged from the fact that the majority of the country’s workforce is engaged in agriculture. Basically, Pakistan is also recognized as an agricultural country. Wheat, cotton, rice and sugarcane are among the most important crops of Pakistan which are also called ‘cash crops’. But recently, the farmers went on strike for not meeting the demands of the farmers in determining the official ‘support price’ of wheat. They are struggling in the country with poor government policies as well as inflation and climate change. For example; In recent years, the weather has been either too cold or too hot. Due to which, the farmer can neither sow nor reap the crop at the right time, they have been still following traditional Rabi and Kharif methods and have not changed their old patterns at all in terms of the weather. Due to which vegetables, fruits and crops are being affected more and that is why sometimes standing crops are exposed to rains”. Despite being an agricultural country, why are Pakistan’s farmers not satisfied? It can be answered as they are being exploited due to poor agricultural policies of the government. According to experts, the year 2020 had seen a record decline in cotton production. Landowners say the crop was badly affected immediately after the sowing, first by locusts and later by continuous rains. The fact is that the country has all the tools for agriculture that we can take advantage of to join the exporting countries instead of importing commodities, but for that it is necessary to establish agriculture on modern lines. And in the current context of paying attention to the need to formulate integrated policies to take effective measures in this regard, it is also imperative that only agriculture can sustain Pakistan’s economy now. Due to climate change, locust attacks and now the corona epidemic, Pakistan is not able to achieve its production target.
